The short version

Why the Aws interview is hard

AWS interviews are mostly about judgement, not memorisation. Given a requirement, which services would you choose and why, and what does that choice cost you in complexity, availability and money?

What to expect

The rounds you should rehearse

01

Service selection

justifying a choice against alternatives that would also work.

02

IAM and least privilege

getting access right, which is where cloud incidents usually begin.

03

Availability and cost

multi-AZ design, and honesty about what it is worth here.

Avoid these

The mistakes that quietly sink candidates

  • Listing services by name without a reason for choosing one over another.

  • Designing with permissive IAM and treating security as a later hardening pass.

  • Ignoring cost entirely, when cost is one of the main constraints on real cloud architecture.

Reading the questions is not practicing them.

Run a live voice mock tuned to the Aws interview. It follows your answers, probes the gaps, and scores you like a senior interviewer would.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do I need to memorise AWS service names?
Less than you would think. Interviewers care whether you can justify a choice against alternatives, so being able to reason about the trade-off between two plausible services beats recalling a long catalogue.
How much does cost matter in AWS interviews?
It is a genuine design constraint, particularly at senior level. A design that meets requirements but is obviously expensive, with no acknowledgement of that, reads as incomplete.
